General Dentistry

Everybody at Somerhill Dental is committed to providing high quality dental care in a comfortable, calm environment. We offer a preventative approach to general dentistry as we want to keep your mouth in the best health possible at all times.

Routine Dental Care

We offer a bespoke dental Memebership Plan at Somerhill Dental, to ensure that you are always on top of your oral health and can spread the cost of your essential, routine dental care over the course of the year.

We offer three plans, determined by your particular needs.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment (also called endodontics) is needed when the blood or nerve supply to the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or trauma. If the pulp becomes infected, the infection may spread through the root canal system of the tooth. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal.

Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits to your dentist.

Does it hurt? No. A local anaesthesia is used and it should feel no different to having an ordinary filling done.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are incredibly versatile and can be slotted as a "cap" over an existing weak or broken tooth, support a largely filled tooth, cover discoloured or stained teeth, secure dental bridges or attach to dental implants. There are different kinds of dental crowns, such as resin, ceramic, porcelain or metal, which are chosen depending on the condition of your tooth/teeth and your financial situation.

Dental crowns are matched to your natural tooth shade, with ceramic and porcelain crowns achieving this natural look more so than their resin counterparts. They are also stronger than resin crowns and considered more aesthetically pleasing than metal ones.

Hygiene

Dental Hygiene

Oral Hygiene is part of our ethos of preventative care. We have 3 hygienists, Clair, Erika and Susan who will take great care in maintaining your teeth and gums. Good oral hygiene helps prevent gum disease, tooth decay, tooth discolouring and halitosis.

Clair, Erika and Susan will carefully clean around the gums and teeth removing any build up of dental plaque and calculus (calcified plaque). They can tailor a cleaning regime to suit you, and will demonstrate how to best maintain your teeth and gums.

Gum disease can often go unnoticed. The severity of gum disease can vary between individuals and in late stages the teeth can lose support and become mobile. Gum disease causes more tooth loss than tooth decay and if left untreated has been linked to other conditions such as heart disease. By preventing the build up of dental plaque the progression of gum disease can be prevented.

As part of your routine dental exam, we check for signs of gums disease. We can advise you how to maintain your teeth and gums and whether any additional measures are needed, such as special toothpaste or a fluoride mouthwash.
